Job Description
Remote Student Opinion Writing Instructor
Remote | Freelance | Three-Month Contract
We are seeking an experienced Student Opinion Writing Instructor to help young writers develop original ideas into polished, publication-ready opinion pieces.
This is not a general ESL teaching position. We are looking for someone with a strong background in journalism, reporting, editorial writing, professional editing, or advanced writing instruction.
Student articles completed through our program may be published through our official media partnerships with The Korea Times and Korea JoongAng Daily.
Work Arrangement
-
Fully remote
-
Classes conducted via Zoom or Google Meet and recorded
-
Three-month freelance contract, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement
-
Five one-on-one sessions per student during the contract period
-
Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes
-
Session times arranged by mutual agreement
-
The number of assigned students will be discussed and agreed upon with the instructor
-
Preference will be given to instructors interested in working with us over multiple terms
Paid Pilot Process
Instead of a conventional interview, selected candidates will be invited to complete a paid one-month pilot.
The pilot consists of:
-
One student
-
Five one-on-one writing sessions
-
Approximately 60 minutes per session
-
KRW 450,000 in total for the pilot
The pilot allows both the instructor and our team to evaluate teaching quality, communication, reliability, and overall fit through actual classes.
After the pilot is completed, we will determine whether to proceed with the three-month contract.
Who We Are Looking For
Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following backgrounds:
-

The instructor will:
-
Conduct five one-on-one writing sessions per student
-
Help each student develop an original idea, perspective, and argument
-
Guide students in creating clear claims supported by relevant evidence
-
Strengthen the structure, logic, organization, style, and voice of each article

Provide substantive editing and feedback on drafts
-
Help students revise while preserving their individual voices
-
Guide each selected article toward a publication-ready standard
-
Manage classes and feedback according to the agreed schedule
-
Provide brief student progress updates when requested
The goal is to produce strong final drafts that require only final copyediting and stylistic refinement from the newspaper’s editorial desk.

Because each student has different needs, learning styles, and writing goals, one-on-one sessions may vary from student to student.
We provide:
-
A general guide for conducting one-on-one sessions
-
The publication schedule
The session guide is intended as a flexible framework rather than a fixed curriculum. Instructors may adjust the lesson structure, pacing, assignments, and feedback approach based on each student’s individual needs and progress.
Portfolio Requirement
A portfolio is required. It does not need to be elaborate, but it should provide verifiable examples of relevant professional experience.
Examples may include:
-
Published articles
-
Journalism clips
-
Columns or opinion pieces
-
Editorial work
-
Professional writing samples
-
Examples of substantive or developmental editing
-

For example:
-
1 student: KRW 150,000 per month / KRW 450,000 for three months
-
3 students: KRW 450,000 per month / KRW 1,350,000 for three months

-
KRW 450,000 in total
Selection Process
-
Resume or CV review + Portfolio review
-
Paid one-month pilot with one student
