1. Role and Responsibilities As a College Guidance Counselor, you will help the students prepare for college entrance and create a comforting learning environment. You will be responsible for the following: • Educates students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing • Advises and supports classes of seniors and families as they go through the college selection process • Meets with 11th and 12th graders to talk about the process and individual college choices • Advises 9th and 10th graders on curricular choices, as needed, and work with students to understand college admissions for different educational systems • Meets with new students and families in Grades 9-12 to discuss course choices and develop schedules • Meets with all college admissions representatives who visit our campus and facilitating meetings between college representatives and our students • Serves as a liaison with college admissions offices throughout the year • Maintains records on seniors, including GPA's and transcripts • Writes official school recommendations for seniors • Completes all report forms requested by colleges, including evaluations of students • Keeps track of admission decisions and statistics • Maks informational presentations to parents of 9th and 10th graders, parents of 11th graders, and parents of 12th graders • Is aware of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing • Maintains and distributes information about standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, and TOEFL • Additional duties such as morning and/or afternoon student monitoring duties, and others as requested by the High School Principal 2.
