Saint Paul American Scholars (SPAS) is designed to help teach young people to become responsible citizens and prepare students for college. That means that they must learn the key attributes of ethical behavior including courage, compassion, integrity, justice, truth, reason, fairness, respect, and honesty in addition to the core academic subjects.
 

A positive school climate is characterized by quality teaching by instructors and effective learning by students. This requires a safe environment for all who work in and attend SPAS along with an emphasis on citizenship and adherence to rules applied equitably and fairly to all in the Saint Paul Scholars community. We believe that parents are essential partners in the educational process and must be properly involved and accountable for the achievement and behavior of their children.


Saint Paul American Scholars is seeking a qualified professional to fill the role of a G1 & G2 Student Assistant Teacher for upcoming openings in the 2025-2027 school year! 

 

The student assistant has a two-tiered objective:

 • Tier 1: Care and Support for Students

     • Understanding student needs for their age-appropriate development for school readiness, organization, safety, and supervision

 

 • Tier 2: Progression in Helping Students Become Self-Sufficient

     • Teaching students how to complete daily, rudimentary tasks, such as cubby organization, shoelace tying, etc

 

Student assistants do not have a class or classroom of their own but instead works in-between classes and is stationed in their workspace at their workstations.


The initial contract for this role begins on August 13th, 2025 and ends on August 11th, 2027 and includes Summer Camp duties. We will be starting interviews as we receive candidates either virtually, on GoogleMeet, with the School Principal and General Manager, or, preferably, in person. We will close the position once it is filled.

 

• Candidates who provide recent letters of recommendation from former or current employers will have the strongest consideration
• Candidate must be available starting August 13th, but we are also strongly considering candidates who want to start during our summer program as well
• All candidates must have an understanding of Social-Emotional Learning and a holistic view of students
This position will work in conjunction with the SPAS disciplinary system - we are looking for educators with a firm understanding of positive behavior systems and their classroom implementation

Responsibilities

 

• Work with the Dean of Students and School Counselor to support students in their social-emotional and soft skill growth at school of G1 & G2 students

• Supervise students in various areas of the school
• Emphasize though role modeling and student interactions - positive behaviors and positive character traits of G1 & G2 students
• Ensure student safety and well-being, good eating habits
• Attend and participate in faculty and staff meetings
• Attend official SPAS functions as outlined on the calendar

• Working cooperatively with admin to further the development of students in soft skills and SEL lessons


Requirements

 

Bachelor's degree preferred
• Hold an F-4 or other F visa with USA, CAN, UK, AUS, NZ, IRE, or SA citizenship. or Korean citizenship
• Apostilled Diploma, Criminal Background Check, and work-related documents
• Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred for student support or TA roles

• 3 letters of recommendation - one must be your most recent/current employer

• Student Age: Elementary School

• Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (-4:50 P.M. once a week for staff meetings)
No in-class, teaching, or instructional time/no phone calls to parents - this is not a Korean co-teacher role

Salary

Competitive and based on a salary scale contingent on years of experience, degrees, and certificates
