Rayul, the Right Start

A proper beginning for our precious children

There is nothing more important than the very first step in education. Our children are guided on the journey to becoming well-prepared individuals who demonstrate mutual respect, embarce responsibility, and consistently exhibit a keen eagerness to learn.

That is why Rayul presents the first stage of holistic education that children truly need as they begin their lifelong journey of growth and success. Based on the British pre-prep tradition, Rayul offers the highest level of immersion education along with a well-balanced curriculum designed to nurture both a healthy body and mind. Rayul is the right start for our children.

Welcome to Rayul!

Hello, my name is Lina Yoon and I am the principal here at Rayul Prep.

I have majored in early childhood education and spent 25 years in this field studying for the best program to help the children develop their full potential through holistic learning.

My belief and values in teaching and learning is to encourage the children’s innate curiosity for everything and be actively involved and direct their learning; emphasizing the importance of exploration and hands-on experiences.

Preschool aged children learn differently from primary school students and require not just the development of cognitive skills but also motor, social and emotional skills which cannot be learned effectively when they are just sitting. Hence at Rayul, we provide lots of opportunities for exploration and make every learning experience fun and relevant through the use of real and natural materials.

Children at Rayul are given the best English Education by qualified teachers in which lessons are carefully planned, putting great emphasis on developing the child’s intellectual abilities but at the same time, skills and dispositions so as to prepare them for the 21st century world.

We, the staff and teachers at Rayul, respect and give love and care for each child so that they will grow up to be conscientious, well-rounded and confident human beings.

We invite you to join us at Rayul.

Curriculum

Concept-driven Themes

Theme-based curriculum by semester

Learning in Korean, English, mathematics, science, technology, culture, and many other areas is organically connected and developed around a variety of themes selected each semester.

Through this integrated curriculum that crosses the boundaries between individual subjects, children spend each semester deeply exploring a single engaging topic. As they investigate and experience the topic through inquiry-based learning, they naturally develop reading, writing, and mathematical and scientific thinking skills.

Rather than following an adult-centered, subject-focused way of thinking, this approach reflects the perspective of children as they experience and understand the world around them. It provides the foundation for active learning, where students enjoy learning and discover their own paths independently.

Language & Literacy

Strong literacy skills must be developed from an early age, as they form the foundation of future English education.

At Rayul, children learn the sounds and letters of English and develop an enjoyment of reading through a multisensory teaching approach that engages sight, hearing, touch, and movement.

To achieve this, phonics is taught systematically beginning in the Nursery level, and once students build a solid foundation in reading skills, they move on to a structured Reading Scheme program.

Rayul students also strengthen their writing skills through activities such as journal book writing, using Rayul’s own specially developed textbooks and the high-quality educational materials created by Rayul teachers.

Nursery

Nursery Year — where children begin bilingual education for the first time in their lives.

Rayul’s youngest classes are designed to help children encounter English as a second language in a comfortable and emotionally secure environment. To support this, classes are kept small with a maximum of eight students, and both a native English teacher and a Korean homeroom teacher work together as co-teachers so that each child receives attentive individual care.

At this stage, the curriculum focuses primarily on listening and speaking so children can naturally become familiar with a new language. Through outdoor activities in Rayul’s spacious natural environment, sports, hands-on science, and art classes tailored to each child’s developmental level, students enjoy engaging days while smoothly adjusting to life at Rayul.

Reception

In Reception Year, the starting age for kindergarten in Korea, students receive more advanced education covering English, cognitive learning, and physical and emotional development.

In English education, students move beyond listening and speaking to begin practicing writing, while also developing the ability to construct a variety of vocabulary and sentence patterns. Reading practice appropriate to their age and level is also introduced.

As social development becomes more active during this period, children learn how to cooperate and participate in group activities through character education. They also experience a wider range of activities, including full-scale STEM programs such as robotics.

Year 1

In Year 1, students become more confident in the four key areas of English — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — while developing stronger bilingual abilities.

In particular, students strengthen their writing skills through journal writing while also building a strong foundation for advancement into higher grade levels. At the same time, greater emphasis is placed on Library activities such as reading and discussing books, helping children develop a closer relationship with reading.

As students become capable of communicating and collaborating in English to complete projects, the STEM curriculum helps them develop the ability to organize and plan creative ideas more systematically. The curriculum also includes a variety of large and small motor activities to support balanced physical development, along with activities where students observe nature and record and present their findings in English.

Year 2

As the highest grade level at Rayul, Year 2 places strong emphasis on helping students express their own thoughts clearly through both writing and speaking, building on the learning achievements they have accumulated so far.

This process not only prepares students for entry into international schools but also helps them develop the skills needed for studying abroad in the future.

At this stage, cognitive development accelerates rapidly and children begin developing stronger independence. Building upon listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, students are encouraged to express themselves freely and confidently. Through small-group discussions with peers, they learn to communicate their ideas logically while also developing the ability to take initiative and complete projects collaboratively with classmates.
