Welcome to MPoly Mokdong
We are dedicated to fostering academic excellence among gifted English learners and returnee students. Rooted in the American Common Core State Standards (CCSS), our curriculum prepares outstanding elementary and middle school students for both English and domestic entrance exams, focusing on advanced reading, debate, and essay writing. At the heart of our mission is reading. Reading feeds every part of our curriculum and becomes the fuel for meaningful discussion and the foundation of all learning. As part of the Poly family, our campus carries forward a legacy of excellence, ensuring that each child meets academic benchmarks and grows into a well-rounded, curious, global leader.
My leadership philosophy is simple: to provide students with a high-quality education, I must first ensure that our teachers are happy and supported. As a director, my priority is to foster a positive working environment where teachers feel valued, motivated, and equipped to succeed.

Our Curriculum and Programs
MPoly’s GRAD curriculum offers a rigorous English education for grades 5–9, based on the North American CCSS framework. Our curriculum integrates advanced English literature, social studies, science, writing, and vocabulary, with intensive debate and public speaking to cultivate academic excellence and leadership skills. Students prepare for class by reading and summarizing texts using the Cornell Notes method, laying the groundwork for meaningful discussion and critical thinking. Each grade consists of three to four levels designed to cater to students with varying degrees of English proficiency and performance.
There are 5 levels within the elementary school program, where students are placed based on ability. The lower levels are focused on comprehension, whilst the higher levels focus on critical thinking, especially in English classes.
Reading is the cornerstone of our curriculum. We believe that strong reading habits empower students to grow not only as language learners but as independent thinkers. Across all levels, students engage deeply with a wide range of texts—building vocabulary, reinforcing grammar, and expanding background knowledge in science and history.
The subjects taught are English, Non-Fiction (science), Cultural Connections (history), Language Composition (essay writing), and Debate. Non-Fiction and Cultural Connections are only taught in one semester, whilst the other subjects are taught in both.
Teaching Structure |
There are no co-teachers, native speakers will be solely in charge of their own classes. A Korean teacher will be the homeroom teacher, communicating with parents and other class teachers regarding progress and other issues. |
Lesson Planning |
All material is provided for teachers. Teachers can make additional material to be shared with other members of staff, however, work is distributed evenly so that nothing is duplicated. |
|
7th-grade students continue to grow as readers and thinkers, following a similar curriculum, except they no longer take essay writing classes. Again, depending on their level, the focus will be on either comprehension or critical thinking.
For 8th and 9th-grade students, the subjects taught will be English and Public Speaking & Writing, where students take part in projects and debates to improve their skills in preparing and presenting topics. Public Speaking & Writing classes train them in communication skills—but it’s their reading practice that gives them the language, context, and ideas to draw from. This integration of reading and expression is what sets our campus apart.

Hiring Period & Procedure
We're always looking for passionate teachers and hire annually through recruiters.
- Application Review: Our director reviews the resumes with preference given to teachers with degrees in education, English literature, social studies, or science. We also prioritize candidates with prior experience in teaching debate.
- Online Interview: Our director and Academic Coordinator ask candidates a series of questions to evaluate suitability. We also answer any questions they may have for us.
- Mock Lesson & Offer: After the interview, we ask that teachers create a short 5-7 minute lecture following the textbook materials we provide for them. Once we decide that the candidate meets our qualifications, we extend a formal job offer.
Key Considerations

- Classes typically begin around 2:15 PM and conclude around 10:15 PM.
- Teachers are expected to independently plan and deliver their own lessons, as well as manage their classrooms. While much of the work is done independently, collaboration and flexibility are essential, as schedules and expectations may change on short notice.

Leadership and Members
Hello! My name is Eric Ko.
I'm the director of MPoly Mokdong. My relationship with MPoly is a bit complicated. It dates back to 2011 when I was first hired as a Korean teacher at the Mokdong campus. After a year of teaching, I went to the U.S. to pursue my master’s. Following my studies, I worked in a different field for several years. However, in 2016, I decided to return to MPoly simply because of the great memories I had here. Read full Q&A
