Location Description

Seoul is a megacity, with just under 10 million inhabitants in the main city and 25 million in Gyeonggi province. A 24-hour city, Seoul has an intense work-hard, play-hard culture. The booming metropolis fuses tradition and modernity. At the same time, retail therapy and cutting-edge technology—Wi-Fi even in parks!—reign in Seoul. The city integrates an urban landscape with large green spaces, making it a great destination for nature buffs and city fans. Seoul is experiencing a growing multicultural influence.

The climate of Seoul is considered both humid subtropical and humid continental. Summers are hot and humid and the East Asian monsoon has a strong impact on Seoul's weather from June to July. Winters are usually cold and dry, although the city gets an average of 28 days of snow per year. The average January low temperature for Seoul is 21 degrees F (-6 degrees C) and the average August high temperature is 85 degrees F (29.5 degrees C).

Gangnam-gu is situated on the southern banks of the Han River. It neighbors Songpa-gu to the east, Seocho-gu to the west, Seongdong-gu to the north, and Gyeonggi-do to the south.

Gangnam-gu is Seoul’s upscale, modern center, home to gleaming skyscrapers, designer brands and stylish nightclubs where big-name DJs spin techno and house. Dining options span high-end restaurants to bars. Starfield COEX Mall draws visitors to its aquarium, while Seoul Arts Center has a design museum and a theater.

Gangnam is known as one of the richest districts in South Korea and is home to many department stores, underground shopping centers, and malls. While Gangnam-gu is known for its high rises and fast culture, there are many parks and greenspaces incorporated throughout.

Transportation in Gangnam-gu is very easy. There are four subway lines that run through the area and two main express bus terminals are just a short 2-5 bus subway stops away depending on where you are in Gangnam-gu.
