“The mission of Francis Parker Collegiate is to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective, and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.”

Francis Wayland Parker is often called the "father of progressive education" and was a pioneer in the progressive school movement in the United States. He worked to create a curriculum that focused on the whole child and a strong language background, opposing standardization, memorization, and isolated training. He showed that education is not just about stuffing information into students' minds but teaching them to think for themselves and become independent individuals.

What we do

Children at Francis Parker Collegiate enjoy the learning process through various activities, constantly expressing their curiosity and creativity. They eagerly embrace learning new things, develop positive attitudes towards themselves and their friends, and actively pursue their own talents while also seeking the happiness of others. They grow into Global Leaders who are self-directed individuals while also showing consideration, empathy, and cooperation towards others.

All curricula at Francis Parker Collegiate are based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) of the United States. Through this, children receive an education in Korea that is equivalent to that in the United States, ensuring that all children can perform the following tasks;

  • Our education guides children to think and act for themselves, becoming responsible citizens and leaders in diverse societies.
  • Our education directs children to learn and acquire through direct experiences in cultural, artistic, and athletic activities, moving away from rote memorization.
  • Our education guides children to grow into individuals capable of social interaction and self-expression through teacher guidance, experiential learning, and self-writing activities.

Francis Parker Collegiate Curriculum/Program

Francis Parker Collegiate Kindergarten offers a premium English immersion education based on the North American Curriculum for kindergarten (ages 5-7) and elementary (ages 8-10) students. In addition to English, the program seamlessly integrates Korean, mathematics, and artistic activities to nurture children into globally-minded leaders with broad perspectives. By using predominantly self-developed textbooks, the program enables students to adapt to the linguistic characteristics and environment of Korean children.

There are three subjects that are operated based on 12 themes according to the Early Childhood Education Curriculum. Using the content learned in the Hye:Yum class as a foundation, vocabulary is learned through the Common Core Sight Words program, and in the Themed Speaking class, vocabulary is deepened and speech classes are conducted. This can be seen as an integration education that is rarely seen in Korea.

Francis Parker Collegiate Elementary

Francis Parker Collegiate Elementary program provides two distinct tracks tailored to students at the elementary level who are just beginning to learn English. The "Elementary Foundation Course" focuses on expanding basic vocabulary and balanced development in the four language domains, starting from phonics, while the "Elementary Advanced Course" caters to students who have been learning English since kindergarten. It systematically teaches reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and grammar to enhance language proficiency and integrated literacy skills. The goal is to empower students to articulate their thoughts on social issues in English with confidence.

Employment

Our teachers, mostly from the USA and Canada, are essential to our school, numbering about 200. We believe in giving them chances to grow professionally and value their influence, experience, and global outlook within our school community.

1. Teacher Support

Comprehensive Training Programs: We offer comprehensive training programs for our teachers, covering not only teaching methodologies but also classroom management techniques, cultural sensitivity training, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Opportunities for Career Advancement: We provide opportunities for career advancement and professional growth within our organization. Whether it's through promotion to leadership roles, specialization in a particular subject area, or participation in a curriculum development program, we support our teachers in achieving their career goals and advancing their careers.

Structured Curriculum and Lesson Plans: We provide teachers with structured curriculum frameworks and lesson plans to guide their teaching and ensure consistency across classrooms. This allows teachers to focus on delivering high-quality instruction and engaging learning experiences without having to spend excessive time on curriculum development.

Modern Facilities and Resources: Our schools are equipped with modern facilities and resources to support effective teaching and learning. This includes multimedia classrooms, interactive whiteboards, computers, internet access, libraries, and other educational materials that enhance the teaching and learning experience.

2. Salary & Benefit

The salary and benefits offered by Francis Parker Collegiate are competitive compared to similar educational institutions, prioritizing the well-being and satisfaction of our teachers above all else. We strive to ensure that teachers receive fair compensation and support for their roles.

Upon arrival in Korea, we strictly adhere to the legal standards set for salary, social insurance enrollment, vacation, severance pay, and other benefits, in addition to providing flight assistance and housing. The cost of living in Korea is relatively low, allowing teachers to save a significant portion of their monthly salary (most teachers save over a third of their salary) and explore a wide range of regions and enjoy the vibrant lifestyle unique to Korea.

3. Requirements

We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who aspire to contribute to and grow within a prestigious and successful educational institution like ours. We anticipate that applicants will demonstrate exceptional levels of professionalism and dedication as dynamic and ambitious educators. It's crucial that they understand that our education program often demands more than what may be typically expected, aiming to maximize the values and potentials of both the school and students.

Common visa and work permit requirements under South Korean law include:

  • Completion of a 3-4 year bachelor's degree or higher
  • Notarized degree certificate
  • Notarized criminal background check
  • Good physical health

4. Recruitment Process and Application Method for Teachers

Given that obtaining a Korean visa typically takes 2-3 months, applicants should plan accordingly. Our academic semesters commence in March and September, and we annually hire 100-200 teachers across our 50 branches. Recruitment is continuous due to expansion and vacancies, allowing applications at any time.

Korean work permits are generally issued for 1-2 years with fixed contract periods. However, the school values long-term employment through contract renewals to ensure continuity. We also support teachers seeking cultural experiences by facilitating their transfers to different locations within Korea.

Francis Parker's recruitment is managed by Derek from Embark Recruiting, a specialized agency for hiring native English teachers in Korea. An American married to a Korean, Derek brings extensive teaching experience from public schools and academies, and his warm, supportive personality aids in interviews, recruitment negotiations, and the immigration process until teachers join us.
