THE CHILD Academy

THE CHILD Academy offers a warm, bilingual program that nurtures early literacy and independent thinking.

At THE CHILD Academy, children ages 4–7 naturally communicate in two languages while developing foundational literacy and critical thinking skills in a balanced bilingual environment.
Daily experiences expand into language, thinking, and self-expression, creating a meaningful and connected journey of growth for every child.

Bilingual Learning at THE CHILD

Built on a Dual Homeroom system led by both Korean teachers and native English-speaking teachers, children are naturally immersed in a bilingual environment throughout their daily routines.

Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are not taught as isolated skills, but are developed organically through everyday experiences and meaningful interactions.

Children experience language not simply as a subject to study, but as a tool for thinking, expressing, and connecting with the world.

Duality

  • Balanced exposure to both everyday language and concept-based academic language.

Interaction

  • Natural interaction with native English-speaking teachers strengthens communication skills and confidence.

Sensitivity

  • A full-day bilingual environment nurtures language sensitivity and awareness.

Confidence

  • Children build confidence in expressing themselves and communicating in both languages.

Learning Through Inquiry

THE CHILD’s educational approach is inspired by the core philosophy of the IB-PYP framework, emphasizing concept-based and inquiry-based learning.

Children ask questions, investigate ideas, and connect concepts through meaningful exploration, developing deeper understanding and critical thinking skills.

IB-PYP Approach in Action
  • Project-based inquiry and exploration
  • Transdisciplinary theme-based learning
  • Development of critical thinking through experiments, observation, and discussion
  • Expanding and applying concepts through real-life contexts

By exploring questions that begin with their own curiosity, children learn to construct meaning independently and grow into confident inquirers who think creatively and critically.

Literacy Program: “The Joy of Reading”

THE CHILD’s literacy and reading program centers on the joy of reading while fostering deep comprehension and expressive ability.

Children naturally expand their literacy skills through experiences such as:

  • Exploring a wide variety of English and Korean picture books
  • Pre-reading activities that build vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension
  • During-reading activities that revisit key sentences, events, and emotions
  • Post-reading extensions through discussion, art, and writing
  • Story-based thematic projects that deepen understanding

Through this process, children develop not only reading skills, but also critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression.

Age 4: Experience

A stage where imagination and role play help expressive abilities flourish.
Through storytelling, music, and rhythm activities, children naturally expand their speaking and listening skills.

Age 5: Explore & Inquire

A time when deeper inquiry begins.
Children ask questions, experiment, discuss ideas, and develop stronger thinking skills.
As they organize and share their understanding in two languages, their confidence continues to grow.

Age 6: Expand & Connect

Children begin expressing and organizing their thoughts through writing and recording ideas.
By connecting broader concepts such as nature, culture, and science to their own experiences, they naturally move from understanding to organizing and expressing ideas in both languages.

Age 7: Elaborate

A stage where children clearly express their own ideas through creative writing, presentations, and completed projects.
They learn to understand and explain more complex concepts while confidently sharing ideas they have created themselves.
