About GIS
Hello, we are GIS specialized in education. Based on 30 years of early childhood education experience, the GIS Education Group, which was launched in 2012, expanded and moved to Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and upgraded to various curriculum and programs. In addition, the ESL program was introduced to provide wider opportunities for students wishing to attend international schools so that they could fully acquire the US curriculum, the Common Core Standard, in a short time.
At Gangnam International School, our philosophy lies in educating the whole child. We strive to raise our students to be happy, caring, responsible, self-reflective, inquisitive, creative and innovative thinkers and doers who endeavor to contribute to society in ways that ripple out beyond their local community.
We nurture not only the cognitive development of our students, but also support the development and well-being of each learner’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and psychological self (e.g., habits of mind) while also following each student’s individual interests and learning styles.
Our Programs
Primary Program
The goal of our Primary Program is to educate the whole child in an environment that supports overall development and maximizes each child’s potential. Our program is designed to enable and empower our students to be independent, critical thinkers who actively build their knowledge and persevere to succeed in constructing their knowledge and in mastering skills. Our students grow to be members of a strong community and learn to give back to one’s local and global communities through school-wide volunteer programs and activities.
Secondary Program
Our Middle School Program covers grades 7 and 8 and is designed to be learner-centered and supportive of the developmental and educational needs of young adolescents. The middle school years are an important time of transition during which students experience unprecedented cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth. Our small classroom size and assessment practices help us meet individual student’s learning needs unique to the middle school years.
The goal of our High School Program, which includes high performance expectations and support for each student’s personal development, is to provide a four-year educational experience that prepares students to be lifelong learners and to develop skills that will enable them to have the academic readiness to continue their education at a post-secondary institution and, eventually, successfully enter their chosen field. After the pandemic, the programs for supporting students’ social-emotional growth, such as student-led clubs, Student councils, and Yearbook Committee were added to the academic courses again.
