General Information (Self FAQ)

Self Introduction

My name is Priscilla, I’m a certified English teacher from South Africa with classroom teaching experience. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, from the prestigious University of Cape Town in South Africa, and I have over five years of work experience in the finance industry. I have a warm and bubbly personality, a strong work ethic and never-give-up approach to life. I believe that my education, skills and experience makes me a good fit for the English teaching position at your academy.

As a university student, I spent most of my free time doing part-time work and volunteering in projects aimed at helping people in my community improve their English communication skills. Currently, I help out in our church’s kids ministry on Sundays mornings. I work in a team of four people and we take of about 15 to 19 toddlers. We keep the kids busy with all kinds of fun games and activities, including singing and dancing.

Every week, we also read them a story and try to convey the life lesson behind it. Prior to that, I assisted in our church’s Homework club, where I worked as a tutor for 7 to 13 year olds in various subjects, includingEnglish and Mathematics. I also mentored a high school learner during her final year. I tutored her in Englishand helped her prepare for and pass all her English exams!

I am passionate about teaching English and enjoy working with kids, something I discovered while volunteering as a tutor. I first became interested in South East Asia after living with amazing Asian students at the university residence. After doing research, I felt drawn to South Korea because of Korean food and culture. Korea is also a beautiful and scenic country with many different outdoor activities for people to do.

Most importantly, Koreans take their education very seriously, which is something that resonates with me. In February/March 2022, I completed a 4-week classroom based 120hour TESOL/TEFL course. The course equipped me with the knowledge and skills to teach English to speakers of other languages. Topics covered include: factors involved in language learning, historical and current ESL methodologies, integrating drama and games into lessons, classroom management, lesson planning as well as phonology and pronunciation. I observed experienced English teachers deliver lessons and had the opportunity to create lesson plans and teach adult students of varying levels during my 60hour teaching practicum.

During my second year at High School, I ranked 4 TH among the Top5 students in my class and was awarded academic colours. I was awarded a scholarship for excellence in academics and sports, and managed to retain this scholarship until I finished school (grade 12). I didn’t have money to go to university but worked hard and received a bursary. I graduated despite encountering many hardships. I believe that my friendly personality, strong work ethic and love for education will help me to be a great teacher in South Korea. I look forward to hearing from your academy to see how I can make a positive difference in your students’ lives and help them achieve their English language goals.
